A Sasher folds a fabric strip to an exact width as you press it with an iron, ready to sew straight onto your quilt. The Ultimate Set gives you 12: eleven sizes from 1/8″ to 3″, colour coded by job, plus the Magic Binding Tool.

Now includes the 3″ Sasher and the Magic Binding Tool. (Previously the Large Set with 10 Sashers, this is the upgraded version.)

How a Sasher Works

Cut a fabric strip, feed it into the wide end of the Sasher, and press with your iron as you pull the tool along. The fabric emerges folded to an exact, consistent width, ready to sew.

What Makes a Sasher Different

Unlike the traditional metal bias tape makers most quilters start with, every Sasher has a curved side, so the edge of your iron sits flush against the tool as you push it along. No more burnt fingers. Pauline recommends a mini iron, which fits perfectly into the curve.

The fabric also feeds through without stretching, which is what keeps your sashings accurate over the length of a quilt. And where metal tools typically stop at 1″, the Sasher range runs all the way to 3″, wide enough for full Quilt As You Go sashings, not just narrow trim.

Cut your fabric at double the size of the tool. The size marked on the Sasher is the finished width of the folded strip, so a 2″ Sasher needs a 4″ wide strip, a 1¼” Sasher needs a 2½” strip, and a ½” Sasher needs a 1″ strip. Double the number on the tool and that’s your cut width.

What is a Sasher?

A Sasher folds a fabric strip to an exact finished width as you press it with an iron, ready to sew. Pauline designed them with a curved side so the iron sits flush against the tool and your fingers stay clear of the heat.

How is a Sasher different from the metal bias tape makers I already own?

Three things: the curved side keeps your fingers away from the iron, the fabric feeds through without stretching so your sashings stay accurate, and the range goes up to 3″ rather than stopping at 1″.

What width should I cut my fabric?

Double the size of the Sasher. The number on the tool is the finished folded width, so a 2″ Sasher takes a 4″ strip, a 1¼” Sasher takes a 2½” strip, and a ¼” Sasher takes a ½” strip.

What size Sasher do I need for quilt binding?

For binding cut 2½” wide, use the 1¼” Sasher. For a thinner binding cut 2¼” wide, use the 1⅛” Sasher. Both are included in the Ultimate Set.

What’s the difference between the Large Set and the Ultimate Set?

The Large Set had 10 Sashers. The Ultimate Set has 12: it adds the 3″ Sasher and the Magic Binding Tool, and every tool is colour coded by job.

Do Sashers work with any fabric?

They work best with good quality quilting cotton. Press gently rather than bearing down hard; the fabric feeds through more smoothly.

Do I need a special iron?

No, any iron works. Pauline recommends a mini iron because it fits into the curved edge of the Sasher.
